This past weekend saw a couple of our multi-talented Finnish drivers tackling round one of the Kars Rallycross Series at the Phoenix International Raceway.
Thrashing round the dirt in (what some might call) thier native territory, Antti Ahola and Teemu Toikka qualified third and fourth respectively before moving on to the heat stages.
Teemu was first up in Heat 1 coming in a comfortable 2nd place, placing him straight in to the A final. Heat 3 was a closer affair with Antti also grabbing second place, just half a second behind the winner Samuli Strang.
The feature race would see Teemu gridded in P2 with Antti in P6 (based on their times from the heats). Neither driver would get particularly great starts, both losing positions in the first laps, however after 10 laps of door banging action, the “Finnishing” (haahaaaaaa, I crack myself up…) would be reversed with Antti crossing the line in 2nd and Teemu in 3rd.
Antti gave us this quote about his race:
“We both made it into the feature race. I had a bad starting spot due to making a mistake in the heat race that l was in. Also l lost so much time on the first laps (of the final) behind Hagner as he went so slow to the jump. Jonne Heikkinen almost took me out at the start when someone spun him coming to the first hairpin but managed to come out of all of that with zero damage and caught and passed Teemu for 2nd place on the 2nd to last lap. So p2 for me and p3 for Teemu”
